Walk and train programme
One-to-one dog training and rehabilitation walks
Social Paws offers a specialist ‘walk and train’ rehabilitation and training programme in Cheltenham. This is suited to dogs who need individual attention whilst you are at work or need ongoing rehabilitation and training. There is a minimum of 1 training walk required a week but most opt for 2-5. These are offered in a combination of ‘transfer’ coaching walks and follow up sessions and all include a free initial discovery session via the phone.
This service is primarily for reactive or nervous dogs, rescue or ‘street dogs’ but also helps train them to do obedience tasks such as loose lead walking, polite greetings and impulse control.
The important stuff…
I am fully insured with Pet Plan and have over 19 years experience in dog handling and animal behaviour, I am an accredited dog trainer and full member with the IMDT (Institute Of Modern Dog Trainers).
Payment and details of services
Training and rehabilitation walks are available from 10am till 2pm Monday to Thursday. If you have multi-dog households with training or behavioural issues I’m happy to split the walk into two separate sessions with no additional fees. A minimum of 1 walk a week will be required for a minimum of 6 months. Payment is due on a monthly basis.
Vet’s referral and canine history form
New client’s dogs may be subject to a full medical check via a vet’s referral before the training programme begins. The vet’s referral process is simple – just a form I will send you to sign which gives me consent to contact your vet.
Free initial discovery phone session
An initial discovery phone session is available for all new clients to find out a little more about the needs of you and your dog and discuss your ‘walk and train’ requirements.
Initial in house assessment and written training/behaviour modification plan
Your ‘walk and train’ programme is subject to a start up payment for your initial consultation and training/behaviour modification plan. Prices are dependent on nature of the issue (behaviour or training) must be booked and paid prior to your dog’s first training walk. This assessment looks at a baseline for training or behavioural modification and let’s us further discuss the process and your dog’s suitability to the programme.

Please choose from the following types of ‘walk and train’ services:
1. One-to-one training or rehabilitation walks
Suited to dogs who are anxious/reactive to other dogs or who need specific training or behaviour therapy
These walks can include:
- Reactive dog training
- Behaviour therapy
- Impulse control
- Reinforcement of calm behaviours
- Socialisation skills and appropriate greetings
- Loose lead walking
- Relaxation techniques
2. One-to-one training or rehabilitation walks with controlled set ups
Suited to dogs who are environmentally reactive, need strict management and control (to prevent going over their threshold), are fearful of other dogs or humans or have a known bite history
As a accredited canine behaviourist I have over 18 years practical experience and theory based learning working with hundreds of dogs with complex behavioural issues. Walks with controlled set ups help streamline your dog’s learning and start the rehabilitation process without the potential risk of going over its threshold.
Certain dogs do not cope well to training situations they come across in every day life. Therefore it’s important that the triggers are controlled and managed so the dog’s mental well being is not negatively impacted. Controlled set ups mean that we can take them to an area in which we can control the triggers, often involving a stooge dog and two handlers. In cases of extreme fear or reactivity, training and rehabilitation starts in the house or garden. In most cases these types of dogs will require ongoing training, but with time and perseverance I have seen measurable improvements in all the dogs I have worked with. Due to the sensitive nature of these dogs I recommend shorter walk times with a combination of coaching walks so you can continue the good work.
These walks can include:
- Controlled set ups
- Ongoing support
- Coaching walks at a reduced rate
- Strict management and control (to stop your dog going over its threshold)
- An accredited behaviourist with confident handling skills
Prices start from £25 for 30 minutes and is priced accordingly to each individual dog’s needs.
3. Perfect partnerships – buddy stooge walks
Join us on a controlled walk where we pair suitable dogs to help the rehabilitation process. Prices are subject to time and there may be a requirement for an extra handler.
